Some Notable Contributions
Over the years, Klova Club Ilara-Mokin had taken steps to fulfilling the Club’s objective in area of educational development. The objective, inter-alia stated: ‘to promote the development of education in the town through the award of scholarship, public film shows, public lectures/career guidance and other educative programmes’. The Club was involved in the upliftment of educational status of the entire Ilara-Mokin community way back into the Club’s early life.
Some of the beneficiaries of this Club’s bursary and scholarship grants included: Sesan Adaramoye, Sanmi Fashalojo (from primary up to secondary school level). Others were Idowu Orimoloye, Rachael Adejiyan, Sikiru Gbadamosi, Adeniji Famoritiye, Kehinde Eko and Toba Adesan. They also included Ibiwumi Omolabi, Adebayo Gbadamosi, Abdulla Oriola, Princess Adeola Adebowale and Gbenga Ojo; all at tertiary institution level.
One of the treasured cultural values of the Yoruba people is the institution of traditional rulers (the Obaship Institution). One of the significant features of the Obaship Institution is the official abode of the traditional ruler – the Palace – AAFIN.
Over the centuries, Ilara-Mokin had no Palace as each successive Alara lived in his private residence which was erroneously referred to as Aafin.
In order to remove that shameful tag “a town without Aafin”, Ilara-Mokin community decided to have a fund raising for the purpose of building a befitting palace complex which was scheduled for Saturday, 19th July, 2008 which was code-named ‘Fund Raising Day’. In the saddle to make the dream come true was Klova Club, Ilara-Mokin.
